AIVC Recommendations for the Composition of Trivalent Influenza Vaccines for Australia in 2026
Availability expected by 25 March 2026.
Key Changes and Composition Details:
Transition to Trivalent: The 2026 vaccine moves from a quadrivalent (QIV) to a trivalent (TIV) format, excluding the B/Yamagata lineage, which has not been detected in circulation since 2020.
Strain Updates: The 2026 formula includes two new Influenza A strains (H1N1 and H3N2) compared to 2025.
Dosage: Each 0.5 mL dose contains 15 micrograms of haemagglutinin for each of the three strains, for a total of 45 micrograms.
Manufacturing: The vaccine is propagated in fertilized hens' eggs.
