Important Info for Parents re
Student Flu Protection at School

Q: My child has never had flu protection before. Can they attend the school clinic?

NO. If your child has NEVER received flu protection before, Vaxicare advises that it is safest practice to visit your family GP for their first dose. They are not eligible for this school clinic.

Q: What is the difference between the Standard Injection and the Nasal Spray?

OPTION 1 OPTION 2
BRAND Consumer Info INFLUVAC FluMist
TYPE The Standard Injection
(Inactivated Vaccine)
The Gentle Mist (Nasal Spray).
Live Attenuated Influenza Vaccine (LAIV).
HOW IT WORKS Traditional Flu shot. It contains a completely inactive ("dead") virus that teaches the immune system how to fight the flu. It contains a weakened, live virus that mimics a natural encounter with the flu to build strong immunity, without making your child sick.
HOW IT'S GIVEN A quick, gentle tap on the arm that feels like a tiny, brief pinch. A quick, painless spray up each nostril. No needles involved! Feels like a cool, wet tickle.
WHO IS IT FOR? Suitable for all children. It is the required option for children with certain medical conditions, such as severe asthma. Healthy children who prefer a needle-free option. Please note: Due to its "live" nature, stocks are strictly limited, and it is not suitable for children with weakened immune systems or severe asthma.

Q: Can my child catch the flu from either option?

NO. Your child cannot catch the flu from either the nasal spray or the standard injection.

Q: What if I choose the Nasal Spray but stocks run out or my child isn't eligible?

Nasal Spray stock is strictly limited and subject to medical screening, the consent form will ask if you are willing to accept the "gentle jab" as a backup. Our nurses will ONLY administer an injection IF parents confirmed YES. We recommend saying YES so your child does not miss out on their winter protection.

Q: Is participation voluntary and how do you Book?

Participation is entirely voluntary. To secure a spot, Parents must select the booking link supplied in the email and grant consent during booking in their child online. For detailed booking instructions, select the button below.

Q: Who must I contact if I have questions?

Please contact / email Vaxicare directly (not the school), they are organising the event and can assist with all queries.
